Vital Signs
Added on 02-11-2006
It is an excellent thriller particularly for those who are new aspirants at Obstetrics & Gynaecology with special interest in infertility treatment-IVF methods and it's criminal abuses. The protagonist of the thriller Dr. Marissa Blumenthal a renound paediatritian herself was suffering from infertility problems. She was getting her treatment done by In-Vitro-fertilisation at Women's clinic, Massachusetts. In spite of repeated attempts IVF failed & the cause for infertility came out to be tubercular salpingitis and allmost all women getting treatment there had same type of infertility problems.Marissa started to investigate it and at her utter astonishment she found thet this clinic is just the tip of a global network. Within its stark walls lurks a chilling conspiracy.A business-controle over life, its rewards-not babies but dollers, billion of dollers. From Massachusetts to Australia to Hongkong the bloody flow of crime took death toll of thousands of unborn embryos, two people(close assosiates of protagonist) & morality and medical ethics. Robin Cook has left a hair raising thriller for medicos. --Dr. Shiuli Mukherjee, RxPG

Bailey and Loves: Short Practice of Surgery
Added on 02-11-2006
Bailey & Love's Short Practice of Surgery is one of the world's pre-eminent medical textbooks with worldwide sales of over one million copies. To keep the book at the forefront of the market, this new edition introduces several innovations based on findings from market research, while retaining those essential features that are the hallmark of the "Bailey & Love" style.
The text presents a comprehensive coverage of general surgery, with new key information boxes in addition to core material. Extensive 4-colour illustration reinforces clinical messages, and the book's famous aphorisms and biographies of prominent pioneers of surgery are entirely updated for the new edition.
The book's readership has always represented a dilemma to classify; in India, Bailey and Love is used by undergraduate medical students, and by postgraduate MS candidates as a revision text; in the UK it is used by MRCS candidates. A new constituency will be formed by the FRCSInt examination being produced by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. All research carried out to date suggests that, as edited by Russell, Williams and Bulstrode, the book will continue to successfully bridge these readership groups. --RxPG_Team, RxPG

Marker
Added on 02-11-2006
Cook spins an abosrbing tale and part of his charm is the mixture of intense medical detail/background with romping yarns of subterfuge and murder. His characters (particularly his female ones) seem to have rather "naff" thought processes and some of the dialogue makes you cringe. But it's fun. Marker hits all these same highs and lows, but there is a terrible sense of "being there before". Some of his more recent novels - particularly Contagion and Vector - have gripped a lot more than this, mainly due to suprising plot turns. Marker have none of these. --synopsis, RxPG

Does anything need to be said for a book which not only has sequels but also sold movierights? It revolves around two friends, one rich, one poor who go on to become enemies. Sounds like a Hindi movie???
The poor guy becomes rich . they both grow old, have children, the children fall in love.....
I completed this thick novel in one!!!! day! --kavita bhavesh gala, RxPG

Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less
Added on 02-11-2006
A story with a great ending. Of course, getting to the ending is also hilarious. It starts with 4 different people who get together to relieve a certain big shot of his money..which he has robbed them off in the first place.
The story runs around four different plots along with a little romance. Jeffrey Archer with the classic english humor. The book will make you smile whenever you recollect it. --kavita bhavesh gala, RxPG
