Illustrated Textbook of Paediatrics (Illustrated Colour Text S.)
Added on 12-08-2006

Illustrated Textbook of Paediatrics 2/e covers the core curriculum for undergraduate teaching of clinical paediatrics. The second edition retains the innovative, full-colour design of the first, incorporating numerous colour photographs, diagrams, illustrated case histories and clinical hints & tips highlighted by a 'smiley face' icon. The writing style is succinct, with bullet-point lists used to facilitate reading and learning, and the content is pared down to cover what students really need to know and no more. There is one new chapter on The Child in Society, covering general issues in child health in developed and developing countries. All the system-based chapters have been thoroughly revised and coverage of ethics, evidence-based medicine and developmental paediatrics has been expanded. --synopsis, RxPG

My copy of this book is breaking apart at the spine and has a few missing pages: this is a testment only to the fact that I've used it so much. I'm an SHO in Paediatrics now, and, since I bought this book in third year I have used it countless times as both as a quick reference guide, and during revision for numerous exams. I quickly came to rely on this book and it's yellow-skinned cousin (OHCM) for brief and memorable introductions to ailments I encountered on the wards and during my revision. This edition is divided into several chapters including Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Dermatology, AŁE, Orthopaedics, General Practice, and Psychiatry (amongst others). While some might feel the poetic subtext on many of the pages is somewhat annoying and pretentious (read the page entitled 'a journey on foot' in the orthopaedic section), I have always found it a welcome augmentation to the raw medical dimension contained within the books pages. No junior doctor in the UK should be without these books, of that I am certain --Reviews, RxPG

This is one of the best Terry Prattchet's boocks I have red. Very good indeed! The fabula is very modern, the characters are full of energy, the action is energising and contemporary. The personalities in the book are interesting, especially the one of the senior post officer. I lake this book. It make me dream of something more... --Violeta Dzhedova, RxPG

Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine (Oxford Handbooks S.)
Added on 30-01-2006

The Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine covers all areas of internal medicine and provides rapid, on-the-spot access to evidence-based clinical management. Its characteristic style - combining incisive guidance with wit, a lucid style, and memorable epigrams - has been popular with generations of medical students and junior doctors the world over. There are a host of new features in this edition: new sections on common acute medical symptoms, and clinical skills; a new 'cheat sheet' on commonly used drugs; more colour plates, and more ECGs. There are numerous other updates and improvements throughout, many suggested by extensive market research. The pages have been redesigned in full colour. A new junior co-author has ensured that the text is just right for its market and tells medicine 'as it is'; and a panel of senior readers has approved every section. The Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine is an utterly reliable 'friend in the pocket', any time of the day or night! --Anita, RxPG
