I wanted to become a doctor as...
Hi Riya,
yours is a basic question everyone should ask oneself before getting admission to mbbs.
There may be so many reasons & logic before someone decides to become a doctor or may be no reason excpet a parent being a doctor!
However, I have a few reasons as well:
* It is in this branch only that you are most independent. Independent about decisions, about work, about timings. mostly there is no someone to order you or rule you.
*other interesting that attracted me the most is- there is so much to know in this world! a life is very short for knowing the world fully. but the first & formost knowledge is about yourself. 'who am I, for what I am here, what is body & mind'... etc are the questions which should be born in the minds of "jigyasu" individuals. & I think this is the branch most useful to get these answers.
*& of course, service to mankind is very important reason for this one. but what I have seen in my college is not many of the most doctors keep their wishes of service to poor people after a long & difficult course of mbbs & especiallty after 3 years of residency. & I strongly believe that in country like India, if you want to serve people, the best is to become mbbs only, which most will bnot like to do. every one wants to do pg. poor people in our country who want medical help need Drs who treat anemia, Tb, rheumatic fever... & not MI, diabetes, HT ect. they need to be completely immunised, & have all basic requirements & check ups which an mbbs can do.
