About my college
Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore established in 1955 has grown in stature year after year to attain the present status. It is one of the finest Medical Colleges in the Country, the first of its kind in India in the private sector. The College has extremely committed highly qualified & experienced teaching staff. The clinical teaching largely occurs in two of the very old Govt. District Hospitals in this part of the Country – a unique feature. The staff are highly motivated and excel in all facets of their professionalism, viz Teaching, Research & Patient Care. The students are drawn from every nook & corner of the Country. At one time there were students from as many as 23 English speaking foreign Countries as well. The infra structure facilities of the College are comparable to any international Medical Schools. KMC, Mangalore is a constituent college of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), which is a deemed University recognized by an Act of UGC. KMC, Mangalore is a truly national college, as the students are selected without any basis of caste, creed, race or colour throughout the country on merit above through an entrance examination. In addition, there are also foreign students which gives it a global character. KMC has exchange programs with Loma Linda University USA, Operation Eye Sight Universal Canada,Tay Side University Dundee and University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, USA Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, started functioning in January1955. In the initial years, the medical students studying in Kasturba Medical College were given pre-clinical training at Manipal and clinical training at Mangalore where the state government had made available its hospitals for the clinical training of the students. In response to the recommendations of the Medical Council of India and the local committees appointed by the Mysore University for the continuation of affiliation, facilities for teaching pre-clinical subjects were provided at Mangalore itself and the Mangalore section became an independent medical college in 1977. The physical facilities and student amenities have been steadily developed over the years. Entry to UGs : About 60 seats are available through the state (Karnataka) CET. About 200 odd seats are available via the MAHE entrance exams. Entry to PGs : Via MAHE entrance exams. Hostels : Hostel facilities are good enough. Food is superb. Fees structure : UG : Rs.2,65,000/- per annum (approx.) PG : Rs.3,10,000/- per annum (approx.) For more details log on to http://www.manipal.edu/kmcmnglore/index.htm
