Debate: Writing journals - Isn't it a waste of time?
what do u think about this issue? most of the time i find myself mindlessly copying from some seniors journal without even giving a thought to what i'm writting. I fail to understand purpose of journal writting in medical colleges, come on we r not kids anymore who have to be given some homework everyday. icon_mad.gif

UNANSWERED: Am I too old(24) for mbbs?

Aim USMLE Step 1

I never heard of something called journal writing!!!!!!!

Same here i too havent heard of nething like that. CONFUSED...could u be a little more specific. Is it something like writing in a file ( we do something like that and invariably i copy down whatever my seniors have written)

icon_eek.gif icon_eek.gif icon_eek.gif icon_eek.gif where do u people come from??? dont u have to write down everything u have learned in practicals into a separate record book?
we call it journals u might be doing same thing but with a different name.

Aim USMLE Step 1

good god............. we call it record work. ya then i agree with you. Thats where our curiculum should definetly change. copying on and on and at the end of it
ink waste, time waste paper waste ...................
some even dont carry marks of any sort they are totally waste.

Aim DM Gastroenterology

University expects us to write journals on our own from the text and hence think it might be useful.......but we copy the journals from seniors without giving it a thought.......

Hence depending on how u plan to complete it.....it might be useful or may just be a waste of time....

couldnt agree more missy.... they r sheer waste of time and energy.... it doesnt stop there... come to final year and see how Obs Gyn journal is completed u'll know the futility of whole thing

icon_lol.gif IIMBBS forum is becoming a lively place ....

Aim DNB Part 2

i totally agree with u...bt we r left with no options as the univ expects us to do so....
its really very frustrating.....

Aim USMLE Step 1

there has to be a better way to do it...

Aim USMLE Step 2 CK

I cant say if i hate this work of so called journal work.....i never got to do it.....thats why AIIMS is special......We know wats useless.....No practical notes...i consider it as a part of Academic Independence...and it sd be provided to every indian medical student....

Aim USMLE Step 1

i jus hate writing record books, specially things tat concern histology. My pathology professor rejects a diagram if there is some problem with just few lymphocytes.!!!

i hate her!!!! i've given up maintaining the record tho! heh

Aim USMLE Step 1

record.... ooh.... too booring!!! imp but a headache!! i suppose it should either carry marks or abolished!!

reduces usless waste of ink, money, paper,,,,, reduces sleplesss nites and temsion......

I came into the topic thinking this is about writing papers "for" "Journals" (like BMJ !!!)

Aim AIIMS May 2011

journal writiing
i am in 2nd prof. MBBS. i also find journal writing boring and waste of time. some of the diagram that we have to draw in journal are time consuming and useless. and there is always mess of getting them signed by your proff.

I still remember the days when I completed my records a night before the date of submisson for practical exam icon_wink.gif
